From the gorgeous fine wool, rose a keen interest in taking the wool from it's raw form and creating a finished product.

Wanda began spinning in 1990. She does custom spinning from the Rambouillet wool for customers who want handspun in a particular color. Realizing that she couldn't possibly spin the hundreds of pounds of wool the sheep produced, she began sending most of it to woolen mills to be processed into fine wool yarns and rovings.

Farm merchandise includes yarns, rovings, fleeces, and Eucalan Wool Wash. All of the our products begin here at Bluestem Farm and therefore all are "Made in the USA", except for the Eucalan wool wash, which is a Canadian product.

Wanda personally weaves the rugs on her "two harness Union rug loom". The warp (the threads that go vertical) are 100% cotton and the weft is 100% Rambouillet wool roving. A roving is wool that has been washed and carded into long strips by the woolen mill.

All rugs are 100% Rambouillet wool, excluding trim. The warp and fringe is 100% cotton. The rugs are washable in cold water and a very gentle cycle. They are very light weight and can be hand-washed. You may use a regular detergent on them. Just be sure they are rinsed well. You may also use Eucalan, the wool wash that I sell. It has a moth-repellant in it and is gentle on the wool.

You may request a custom colors or lengths. I will hand dye the roving and then weave the rug for you.   Rugs are approx. 27" to 29" in width and your choice  in length.

The rugs can be used as a rug on the floor in a very special place where bare feet can enjoy them or to lie on. They may also be used as a throw for a chair or sofa. They will not scratch most people, which makes them great for babies.

The discriminating consumer will see the fine distinction of these rugs/throws because they do not look and are not mass produced. Each one is unique in its own way. Therefore, each rug is price individually.  All sizes exclude fringe. All are hand washable, instructions included.

Bluestem Farm's fleeces are now available!   You may reserve yours now by emailing, writing or phoning us. These fleeces are almost identical in grade, loft, color, cleanliness, crimp and handle. Spinners fleeces are all blanketed. They are sold as the whole fleece only (please inquire).  Each are $5.00 per pound.

2007 Fleeces

This fleece is not as fine as the rest, but a real pretty fleece. It weighs 11.5 lbs and is 3.5 inches long. SOLD	Extraordinary fleece! It is 17 microns. The ewe is 14 years old. This will be the last chance to purchase one of her fleeces.  It is 2.5 inches long and very beautiful. It is 5.0 lbs. It would make wonderful lace.
