"Mary Had  A Little Lamb"

Mary had a little lamb. It's fleece was black as coal.
It followed her to school one day-----.
Every fall my grandson and I demonstrate how clothing was made in the pioneer days to the first grade students in a local elementary school. The show stopper is always the lamb.
Most children have never touched a real live lamb.

Bluestem Farm was established in 1981 by Walt and Wanda Martens. It has developed from raising and showing purebred registered Rambouillet sheep to processing fine wool yarns, rugs/throws, and sweaters

Raising both white and natural colored Rambouillet give me many color options.

My interest in fiber arts began when we bought the sheep but I didn't learn to spin until 1991 and began weaving in 2000. I also enjoy dyeing the wool with natural and commercial dyes. Another process I love is felting.

It is a tremendous sense of accomplishment to take the raw wool, wash and card it and then spin, felt or weave it. The sweaters are hand knitted by golden-agers. I design and make all of the rugs, throws myself. Each one is unique. They are all made of fine wool and will not scratch should you choose to use it for a throw. All hand-washable. The rugs are for special purposes like squiggling your toes into, lying on, wrapping up in, lying a baby on, etc.

I also teach spinning, dyeing, and felting. It is wonderful to pass on these old fiber arts to young people.

I hope you enjoy my wool products as much as I enjoy creating them for you!
